Walk for ALS Ethical Fundraising

My name is Laurie Lister.  My life changed forever on October 18th 2005.  That's the day my husband was diagnosed with ALS.

I remember the day as if it was yesterday.  It's the day all my dreams for the future with my husband were taken away.

I met my husband in 2000, it was love at first sight.  He was so handsome and swept me off my feet.

Then in October he was diagnosed with Bulbar ALS.  That's when I decided that I wanted to spend whatever time he had left by his side, taking care of him.  So three months later we were married. He was walking with a cane the day he was diagnosed, and when we got married he was totally dependent on a wheel chair.  We were married in January 2006.  From that day forward my life became his, and I wouldn't change one minute of it.  My husband lost most of his functions in a matter of months.  It was a times the hardest thing I have ever done in my life.  To see his smile even though he was suffering warmed my heart.  He was my sunshine.  He wanted to die at home and that was the last wish I could give him.  He passed away in my arms on May 18 2007.  I feel so lost without him.  He was my soul mate and my best friend and I miss him terribly.  For people who have been recently diagnosed I have one piece of advice live everyday to the fullest, and let the people you love know exactly how you feel.  That's very important.
