Walk for ALS Ethical Fundraising

Paddle Quest for ALS brought Anne Marie Fortner and Hélène Marcoux, two old travel and adventure friends, over 1000km of canoeing from Winnipeg, MB to Thunder Bay, ON July and August 2006.

The cause for such an adventure: an ode to Franca, Anne Marie's mother, who was diagnosed with ALS two years ago.

The journey was spiritual and emotional but also rejuvenating, a source of inspiration to both the young women and to all those along the path. Epic moments of adventure and hardship were endless - six foot waves on giant lakes, night paddles to avoid the summer blaze and the perpetual drive to push ahead to Lake Superior.

The trip began on the Red River to Lake Winnipeg, up the Winnipeg River, into the Lake of the Woods near Kenora, ON, and into the wilds of Quetico Provincial Park.

The final leg of the trip ended with the 14 km Grand Portage to Lake Superior.

Fundraising through a website and word of mouth led to over $5,000 in funds raised for the ALS Society of Ontario.

This trip could not have been realized without the support from family, friends and kind donors.
