Light a Candle of Hope for ALS
Focused on the theme, “Light a Candle of Hope for ALS,” the paper candle campaign, launched in spring 2008, provides local businesses and organizations with an easy way to show their community support and fundraise for a great cause.
By “lighting a candle of hope for ALS,” businesses and donors help us provide people affected by this disease with equipment to maintain their independence, as well as peer-support groups and education programs to help sustain their dignity and offer hope for the future.
You Can Join Us
The Society is working to pair up with businesses across the province to sell and display the candles. If you are a business owner or know one who may be interested, please consider supporting our campaign.
Here’s how it works:
Choose a month to hold the campaign, order paper candles and assign a member of your organization to manage the program. Equip each employee with paper candles and instruct them to ask customers if they would like to make a donation of $2 to help people living with ALS. For every donation made, a paper candle with the donor’s name will be displayed on your company’s windows and/or walls throughout the duration of the campaign. Keep track of all the donations, and when the campaign ends, write a cheque or obtain a money order made out to the ALS Society of Ontario. Submit it to your local paper candle champion, a community volunteer who helps generate awareness about the campaign and acts as a liaison between the Society and our community business partners. It’s that simple!
If you’re interested in selling and displaying paper candles, or if you’d like to become a paper candle champion, please contact Karen Baldwin, manager, events, at 905-248-2101 or 1-866-611-8545 x 220, or by email at
