We communicate through newsletters, brochures, and through our extensive web site. The ALS Society of Ontario will accomplish its mission by mobilizing an ardent volunteer base to support the work of the ALS Society and by raising funds for ALS support services and ALS research. Our Vision: Our Mission: The ALS Society will:
Services & SupportTo serve immediate needs Through volunteers and staff located at our main offices in Toronto and in regional offices and community groups throughout the province, families affected by ALS are offered information about ALS, practical and emotional support, referrals to services in the community, and access to assistive equipment. Our equipment program includes mobility aids such as walkers and wheelchairs, communication devices, bathroom aids, and breathing apparatus. The Society maintains a loan pool of equipment across the province where, if available, equipment is loaned to the family at no charge. If the equipment required is not available within the loan pool, the Society will assist with up to 65% of the purchase price to acquire new equipment. In exceptional circumstances the Society will cover 100% of the purchase price. Peer support groups are organized in many communities where persons with ALS and caregivers can share their experiences, tips on coping, and give emotional support to one another. InformationTo build awareness The ALS Society of Ontario provides comprehensive, accurate, and timely information about ALS to those with ALS, those affected by ALS, the research and healthcare community, the media, our donors and volunteers. We communicate through newsletters, brochures, and through our extensive web site. ResearchTo provide hope The ALS Society of Ontario raises funds for services and for research to find a cure. All funds raised for research are used by the ALS Society of Canada to fund only the most promising projects reviewed by some of Canada’s top researchers. While we have been rewarded with some breakthroughs, there is still much to learn and so much to do to end this devastating disease. ALS Canada's major research program is a collaborative effort with Muscular Dystrophy Canada and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. |
